Volkswagen the German car manufacturer revealed sixth-generation Volkswagen in New York. The new 2011 Volkswagen Jetta was produced to be price valuable and price starts from $15,995 which is $1,740 less than the fifth generation car.
The US customers will choose from 4 different engines, including a brand new 138-hp 2.0-L common rail TDI that produces a robust 320 Nm of torque. Also new is the 114- hp entry level petrol engine system. The other two petrol engine system available in the US are the 2.5-L unit producing 168 hp and a 2.0- L TSI that generates 197 hp. The TSI will be used in the Jetta GLI, which will not be sold Stateside until 2011. Each of the two turbocharged units are available with a six-speed DSG transmission, though a manual transmission comes standard.
Six engines will be available on Europe spec Jetta, in that four are new models. Two of the new engines are common rail turbodiesels, including the 1.6- L TDI BlueMotion 103 hp and 138-hp 2.0-L TDI. The new car models are 103-hp 1.2 TSI and 158-hp 1.4 TSI engines. These 4 models will not be sold until 2011. The car will only be available with two TSI units a 1.4-L model kicking out 121 hp, and a 2.0- L 197-hp model. Both 1.4-L models may be mated to a seven-speed DSG transmission, while the 1.6- and 2.0-L TDI, and 2.0-L TSI can be captivated up to a 6-speed DSG transmission.
The new Jetta is longer than the fifth-gen car. The latest sedan has a wheelbase that is seven centimeters longer, and a body that is nine centimeters longer, than the outgoing model. As such, the car measures 4.64-meters long by 1.78-meters wide by 1.45-meters high, and have a 2650-mm long wheelbase. The new Jetta have a shorter rear end, with a sharper rear windscreen.
The bigger proportions translate to more legroom inside, which has been increased by nearly 7%. The extra width can definitely be seen at the front of the car, where the added width translates to a sportier appearance. The redesigned front fascia adds to this, with the short grille element, and narrow headlights.
