General Motors introduced the new GT2 class Corvette C6.R in August, it runs trimmed 6.0-liter version of the 7.0-liter V8 from GT1 car. GM is planning a new engine for its race Corvette with modified GT for 2010 said by Doug Fehan, Corvette Racing program manager.
The 6.0 or 7.0 race engine that shares fundamental sizes with the production tiny block, the 2010 C6.R's V8 is a new 5.5-liter version that is resulting from the manufacturing engine found in roadgoing Corvettes. The 5.5-liter race engine will be produced at GM Performance Build Center beside ZR1 and Z06 V8s.
Fehan said in a report that the 5.5 is operating on the dyno and will debut at Sebring in March. The full details of the new engine are not available but it is designed as based on the next generation engine.
