Mercedes-Benz the German auto manufacturer going to reveal Mercedes-Benz Unimog U 4000 Camper on 2010 Abenteuer and Allrad, Europe largest off-road vehicle show, from June 3. The U 4000 is based on the Universal Motor Gerat or Universal Motorized Unit or Unimog, but offers off road traveler more.
Mercedes-Benz Unimog U 4000 is powered with a 4.2 four-cylinder diesel engine system producing 160 kW or 215 bhp or 218 PS. It is fed by a 290L diesel tank and carries two 20L or 5 gallon reserve canisters. Part of the vehicles excellent off-road capability is ensured by a suspension with torque tube, transverse links and coil springs, portal axles for great ground clearance, as well as short frame overhangs.
Mercedes-Benz Unimog U 4000 moves on four wheels and provides two differential locks for both axles. The hydraulic 7-tonne front winch is used to pull itself out of sticky places. More likely it can use the winch to pull another vehicle in trouble. The driver is able to reduce tyre pressure directly from front seat in order to travel over sandy surfaces. The rear Bocklet accommodation module measures 4.35m long, 2.2m wide and has a standing height of 1.95m. The walls are coated with 2mm-thick fabric-reinforced outer layer for extra strength.
Travellers will not be inconvenienced regardless of how far they are from the comforts of their homes. There is a 110 litre compressor fridge, a wash basin, a shower, a cassette toilet and hot water from a 10 litre gas/ electric boiler. The kitchen has a two-burner gas stove, a sink and a drainer. A 300L on board tank carries fresh water while a 200L waste tank takes the leftovers. Other comforts consist of TFT television with satellite dish, DVD player, hot air heater and 220 Ah of battery capacity with backup of 260-W solar panels. The cost of Unimog 4000 Camper is €248,300 or US$304,300.
