The Volkswagen Polo has been awarded the 2010 World Car of the Year at the New York International Auto Show. Volkswagen car wins two other competitors Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Toyota Prius to win the award.
Nearly 30 cars nominated for the award, a list that was whittled down until the three finalists were announced last month. To be considered for the award, a car is in manufacture and sold on two different continents in 2009. At least 500 cars of each selected car to be produced in 2009 to be eligible for the award.
“Holding its own in the most competitive market segment, the all new Polo is one of Volkswagen. The Polo is just one brilliant supermini.” a spokesperson said in a press release. The Volkswagen Polo was chosen from an opening entry list of 30 entries selected by 59 World Car judges from 25 countries throughout the world.
The Chevrolet Camaro is the World Car Design of the Year and the Volkswagen BlueMotion lineup as World Green Car of the Year.
